Personal Life

• Information: As Gururaj was born on Thursday, for that reason, a Sanyasi said to name him as Gururaj. At the age of 20 years old, he was found in Permude Sharada Yakshagana board and appeared as arthadhaari. In thisboard, as a secretary and Vice-President, he has done his services. He has taught yakshagana Arthanaatya for few interested ones.In the year 2006, Shri Sharada Bhajan board was inaugurated and he became the president of it and still doing his services there. In 2008, he participated in 1 week bhajans training camp that was held in Dharmasthala. He had lots of devotion towards the divine god. During Navarathri, Shivarathri and in the month of Karthika, on every Mondaysand Fridays, he used to do fasting. During Navarathri, he visited several temples by walking to Kateel, Moondkuru, Polali and Bappanadu temples. And also during Shivaratri, near to his village, he would visit Pongaaru, Kalavaaru, Pejavara, Mogarugudde, Permude’s Shiva temple by walking. At the age of 23 years, during Permude village nemotsava, he started to participate as the representative of his ancestral house.

Activities

• Sports: While he was studying in Degree College, he participated in few taluk level competitions and University levels sports competitions and won prizes. In 1993, he participated in an event, 800 metres running race that was held in Mangalore Mangala Stadium and bagged 2nd place and got selected to state level was a big achievement.
• Yakshagana: In Kateel, a person named Umesh Myoli, learnt yakshagana from him and performed the plays in his and other villages. Moondkuru DurgaParameshwari yakshagana board, Kuthethura yakshagana board Kalavaaru Benkinaatheshwara yakshagana Board havyaasi balaga, Kateel Sharada yakshagana Board Chandranagara Permude,likewise 10 more association-organizations were formed and cast as disguise. In 1995, during 9 days of Navarathri in Kaatipalla Ganeshapura, he became a representative for the Kateel havyaasi balaga during yakshagana competition and also he got the best costume prize for the participation of Bhargava Vijaya Prasanga Jamadagni’s role. He even performed during village’s fair, few plays of Shri’s role and also famous tulu drama Baiyya malligeya Sumathi’s role was his favourite one.

• ಕ್ರೀಡೆ: ಕಟೀಲು ಪದವಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಹಲವಾರು ತಾಲೂಕು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಆಟೋಟ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 1993 ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಮಂಗಳಾ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಮಟ್ಟದ 800 ಮೀ ಓಟದಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದು ರಾಜ್ಯಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದದ್ದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಾಧನೆ.
